Thursday, 30 September 2010

Hey week three of college is nearly over and i have to say im loving it! Clubs day was during the week and i joined everything. Parachuting and trampolining should be interesting! I went to kickboxing last night. It was soooo fun but im in serious pain today after all the stretches!

All our labs have started except for physics. On Fridays we have biology and chemistry labs, thats not good after a Thursday night out! Last Friday we had to use microscopes in biology labs and i got to see human stomach and muscle. It was actually really cool seeing it all! Its really annoying having to write up all the lab reports, i should really make a start on them...
I have to go to cit in a bit for creativity, innovation and teamwork and chemistry. I have now started walking there because the bus is always late! Ok i better go write those lab reports byeeeee! Katex

Well labs finally started  this week:) They lived up to expectatios  and were really interesting ! My only complaint would be that our biology labs happen to follow Thirsty Thurdsay, official college night out, which lead to me almost dozing off on my microscope . Not to worry though, my energy levels eventually restored themselvs and was able to enjoy the class fumbling around with the microscopes. We're all pros at this stage:) Felt like a proper scientist again with my first ever chemistry lab. We had an uneven number so unfortunately i ended up without a lab parter, which led to me asking the pair next to me countless questions! Apoligies guys !! Hopefully i'll get the hang of it sooner rather than later and be a tad more independant.
Besides from the practical side of the course. all lectures are really kicking in now. Have discoverd that chemistry is tough ! (In case you haven't noticed , chemistry difficulties are going to be a reoccuring theme with my blog, where else can i vent my frustration ? )

Joined way too many clubs and societies this week , although some of them I genuinely felt like I was peer-pressured into it ! Should be interesting to see how I'm going to juggle the Chemical Society meetings with the kick-boxing classes . Should keep me occupied and off the streets anyways, which is always a good thing I suppose . Thats all happening with my life this week anyways, as soon as it starts livening up, you'll be the first to know :) ...By the way apologies for the excessive use of smiley faces / exclamation marks etc..I'm just like that....;)

My Thoughts at the end of week 2

Well I absolutely love the course!!
Having 2 campuses is great! I've managed to bump into literally eveyone I know in college! So on top of the friends i've all made in the course (which was easy because everyone's really sound!) i get to keep in touch with my other friends too. The lectures are all really interesting, especially my biology modules, i have to admit to being a total biology nerd! Our cell biology lab this week definately takes the biscuit! Let me tell you, gall bladder cells look amazing under the microscope!!

I have to admit I'm so relieved that I like this course, because i took a bit of a scenic route in getting here. I did my leaving cert in 2009 and started arts last year, i know, how different can you get right! But it just wasn't for me!! Don't get me wrong, arts is a great course, but just not right for me!! In school my favourite subjects were English, Biology and Chemisrty, and i didn't know what to persue. Obviously it took two goes to get to the biology route but i'm absolutely delighted to be here!
The early mornings are a bit of a struggle for me, i'm not going to lie! especially because i'm still living at home and have to leave the house by 7.30!! Next year I'll definately look into getting a house nearer college!!
Have to go now, my lunch is being served...something i'll miss if i do move out next year!

College Life!!

Hey everyone i finally managed to log into this! if you dont know by now im not a computer person! so far college has been great. Everyone is really nice! We started lectures in cit last week and our labs and ucc lectures have started this week. We have to do physics which im dreading i've never done physics!
Going to two colleges is great but it is annoying having to wait for the number 5 bus which is nearly always late. On fridays we dont finish untill 5 so trying to get a bus home is very stressful because they are always packed!
Freshers week started this week. its sooo fun! I went to my first uv party Monday night. It was not fun having to get up for a nine o' clock lecture though!

I moved away from home but it doesnt feel like it! Cork is a great place to live. I suppose the biggest shock though was having to cook for myself. Kinda getting the hang of it now!

Survival Of The Fittest:)

Finally started college , and so the rest of my life begins from here :) Had mostly registration to do for this week , but with the rest of our lectures starting on Monday, will be all systems go from then. Must admit, im slightly freaking out about not having done chemistry before. I always knew that i'd be hitting the ground running once lectures kicked in , but never realised id be actually be playing catch up from day one eek. Im staying optimistic though and fingers crossed my love of biology will keep me going :) The only way is up !

On a brigher note, got lucky with my class , all the girls are sound out! ( as are the boys , all five of them , bless um:) ) am looking forward to freshers week , or fortnight for us , although im sure my mother doesnt share my opinion. Its times like these that I wish i didnt live at home for college :(  Ah well , she'll be well used it during my four years ill be spending at college im sure !

Labs starting this week also , very excited . Not so excited about the dress code however ...... another thing we'll have to get used to i suppose .... attractive...

Guess its time to panic...

Last week was just an introduction so the whole atmosphere was pretty relaxed I'm happy to say..This week I'm afraid could be arm bands off and straight into the deep end...! Just like Soracha I am really relieved that not everybody in the class did chemistry for the leaving cert as I am pretty lost, but time will tell and hopefully I'll get my head around the whole thing.
I guess I better mention how I'm coping away from home and I'm not going to lie I'm finding it hard, got a little home sick during the week but it'l get easier in time. Cooking for myself is another hurdle but there is always help just a phone call away...!!

Looking forward to seeing all the girls again tomorrow, everyone in the class seems to be hitting it off, makes getting up early in the morning and walking to college a whole lot easier.! Blog during the week plenty of packing to do, wish me well!

And so it begins...

Ok, so we're one week into the college year and so far so good! I thought it would be a bit of a hassle getting from UCC to CIT but thankfully we've got loads of time to get over...even enough time to walk if I'm not feeling too lazy!! (the number 5 bus it just too easy!)

Most of our lectures have been introductory which is good, anything more would be a complete shock to the system!! Chemistry however has already started. Its really good for people who haven't studied it before coz we're starting with the basics. I'm dreading physics though, haven't done it since i was 15... almost 5 years ago!!! eek! Here's a little chemistry video.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBCmt_pJTRA

I can't wait to get fully into everything now. Apparently we get to dissect a rat! i hope he's not like one of these ones..
would seem mean!!

My only complaint with the course is all the early mornings!! I am not a morning person!!!

This is my 1st time blogging, so sorry if its not fantastic! I'm sure I'll get better as the year goes on.
